first day of school 50 years ago

The year was 1969. A group of parents met to discuss the establishment of a private school. These parents shared a common goal, to establish a private school that provides the best educational opportunities possible for their children. Those same parents had the needed Articles of Incorporation drawn up, and with the donations of 23 acres of land, work began. On September 21, 1970, with grades 1-9, Jackson Academy officially opened. There were 251 founding families and a total of 420 students. Each year an additional grade was added to the Academy and the first class graduated in 1973. The football stadium was added in 1971 and later came the gymnasium, in 1973. Jackson Academy 5k class was established in 1975 and the 4k and daycare began in 1976.
